OACTA/Explico Webinar - "Sideswipe Collisions: Biomechanical Analysis"
Wednesday, May 19, 2021, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT
Category: Events
Join Megan Bland, Ph.D., and Karla Petroskey, MSE, PE as they discuss how to determine occupant dynamics and injury potential in sideswipe collision using biomechanical analysis. Sideswipe automotive collisions are common in the world of personal injury litigation. The apparent visual damage sustained by passenger vehicles during sideswipe collisions is often disproportionate to the loading experienced by the occupant. The primary objective of the current course is to equip non‐technical legal practitioners with practical knowledge related to sideswipe collisions that will enable them to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of their case. Specifically, participants will be given a brief but essential primer in basic physics associated with sideswipe collisions and occupant kinematics and kinetics. Through the framework of a case study, previous research on vehicle dynamics during sideswipe collisions, the biomechanical environment experienced by occupants during such impacts, and the mechanisms associated with commonly claimed injuries will be reviewed, as well as methods for estimating the precise, subject-specific loading environment of occupants. Finally, the development of physics-based visualizations of collisions will be discussed. Register Today!
