Court & Judicial Updates: 

  • March 17, 2020 - Ohio Supreme Court—all filing deadlines remain in place, but the court says on its website that only essential staff are working on site. https://www.supremecourt.ohio.gov/

  • March 17, 2020 - Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas—all in-person civil proceedings have been suspended for 30 days. Civil proceedings may be conducted by phone at the discretion of each individual judge.   • March 17, 2020 - United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio—all civil jury trials scheduled to begin before May 1 are postponed, and judges will conduct civil pretrial proceedings by telephone or video conferencing where practicable.   • March 17, 2020 - Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals—oral arguments scheduled for this week have been postponed, but the court will otherwise continue to operate in the normal course.   • March 17, 2020 - Cincinnati Bar Association - Under the guidance of volunteer leadership and stipulations of local, state and federal health organizations regarding COVID-19, several events are canceled. We will keep you informed about rescheduled offerings. Stay up-to-date on alternative engagement options on our News page and social media channels.   • March 17, 2020 - Ashtabula Municipal Court - It is the intention of the Ashtabula Municipal Court to remain open and maintain court operations and functions, subject to further order of Court. The local rules of court may be temporarily adapted to allow court flexibility, within constitutional limits, in response to the public health emergency.   • March 17, 2020 - Kentucky Supreme Court - The Supreme Court has approved additional amendments today to its administrative order restricting dockets, jury trials and jury service from March 16-April 10.   • March 17, 2020 - Ross County Common Pleas Court - The Ross County Probate and Juvenile Court shall remain open. The public may continue to utilize the Court's services while following all applicable public health guidelines.   • March 16, 2020 - Jackson County Common Pleas Court

    All civil and criminal hearings or matters scheduled for trial, pretrial, or motion hearing before this court including any associated deadlines are continued and extended 30 days pending further order of the court, save and except the following. The Jackson County Municipal Court will beginning Monday March 16, 2020 only hear the following cases:
    1. Arraignments or Initial Hearings of new case filings
    2. TPO Hearings for Domestic Violence concerning offenses of violence

  • March 16, 2020 - Erie County Common Pleas Court -  We want to assure the bar that we are monitoring events closely, seeking the advice of the informed professionals and taking all appropriate and necessary precautions to protect all people who come to, work at, or need access to the Common Pleas Court in this County.   • March 16, 2020 - General Division of the Butler County Common Pleas Court - continues to monitor the most current statements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Ohio Department of Health, and the Butler County Health Commissioner regarding Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The General Division of the Common Pleas Court is following recommended guidelines from public health officials.   • March 16, 2020 - Indiana State Bar Association - In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Supreme Court has ordered trial courts to implement relevant portions of Continuity of Operations Planning (such as postponing jury trials, allowing for remote hearings, and keeping only essential staff in courthouses).   • March 16, 2020 - Willoughby Municipal Court - The Willoughby Municipal Court continues to prioritizes the health and safety of its staff and the community in its commitment to the administration of justice.  The Court will continue to conduct its daily operations and use technology whenever practicable to limit the number of individuals entering the courthouse.  There are many procedural changes occurring by the hour and we understand that there will be questions.
